Carl Hamstrom
Portage-Carl Hamstrom, 75, of 2433 Hamstrom Road, whose family was among the early settlers of Porter County, died today at The Willows Rehabilition Center in Valparaiso after a lengthy illness.
Born in the Crisman area of Portage Oct. 19, 1900, a son of Charles and Etta (Krieger) Hamstrom, he married Evelyn Samuelson February 4, 1940 at McCool Methodist Church.
A retired farmer, he was employed as maintenance foreman for Portage Township highway garage and served as trustee eight years and Porter County councilman at large 12 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist church, Portage, Evening Lions Club and Calumet Lodge 379 F & AM Orak Shrine of Hammond and South Bend Consistory.
Surviving are his widow; a son, Norman of Portage; a daughter, Doretta Swinson of Bloomington; a sister, Ena Pop of Valparaiso and two granddaughters.
Services will be held Monday at First United Methodist Church in Portage with the Rev. Orla Bradford officiating. Burial will be in McCool Cemetery. Friends may call at Engel Funeral Home.

Hamstrom, Carl F. - Age 75 of 2433 Hamstrom Road, passed away Friday, May 14, 1976 at Willows Nursing Home, Valparaiso. He was born in Portage, October 19, 1900 the son of Charles and Etta Hamstrom. He married to Evelyn Samuelson, February 4, 1940 in the McCool Methodist Church. He was a retired farmer and Porter County Councilman at Large for 12 years, Portage Township Trustee for 8 years, member of the First United Methodist Church of Portage, the Calumet Lodge No 179, F & AM Orak Shrine of Hammond, the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend also a member of the Portage Evening Lions. Survivors, wife, Evelyn; 1 son, Norman of Portage; 1 daughter, Mrs. James (Doretta) Swinson of Bloomington, Indiana; 1 sister, Mrs. William (Ena) Pope of Valparaiso, 2 granddaughters. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 pm at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Orla Bradford offficiating. Interment in McCool Cemetery.
